Higher Education GAA Referees’ Bursary 2017-08-21 23:07:00

Cumann Réiteoirí Ceanntar na Cathrach C.L.G.  & Seandún C.L.G (City Division) have unveiled details of a new Higher Education GAA Referees’ Bursary for students attending University College Cork and Cork Institute of Technology.

The new initiative will be open to members of Cumann Réiteoirí Ceanntar na Cathrach C.L.G. and provide support to the academic and refereeing development of the student.

The Chairman of Seandún C.L.G, Derry Murphy, described it as a significant process in the development of refereeing and would like to see the scheme expanded by other GAA organisations. He also acknowledged the support offered by both University College Cork and Cork Institute of Technology for embracing the initiative.

The Chairman of Cumann Réiteoirí Ceanntar na Cathrach C.L.G., Mark Maher, said: “It is great to see referees been recognised in the same way as a player, coach or an administrator.” He also addressed how such a scheme would “benefit young referees to continue and persist with refereeing with the award of such a bursary”.

The bursaries scheme is open to all current UCC and CIT students or those applying to come to UCC and CIT for the first time either through CAO or transferring at undergraduate or postgraduate level.

Each bursary granted will be for €500 and payment will be made in three instalments. Further information and application forms for the scheme are currently available to download from http://www.seandungaa.ie/, and from the GAA Development Officers in UCC and CIT. All completed forms should be returned to the Secretary Seandún C.L.G. and the closing date for application will be October 6th 2017.
